Movement & Immune Health

There is such a compelling link between physical activity and your body’s immune health. Research supports that regular exercise boosts immune function by:

  • raising white blood cells to help fight infection

  • increase circulation

  • lowering stress.

Creating a movement routine matters. Consistent exercise habits improve immune regulation, and as we age delays the onset of immune-function decline that typically happens.

One caveat the research also offers is that the key may be moving smarter, not harder. Shorter intervals of moderate exercise (brisk walking, easy jog, dancing, water aerobics, swimming, bike riding), have an anti-inflammatory effect and positively stimulate the immune system.

Prolonged, vigorous exercise can create stress in the body and in response hormones that are immune-suppressing are released.
